Suds, Silver, and Severe Brake Dust: A Perfect Saturday Driveway Session
A beautiful Saturday afternoon driveway detailing session featuring a Porsche Boxster foam wash and a deep-cleaning battle against weeks of heavy brake dust buildup on a daily driver Acura MDX.
There is a distinct type of therapy that can only be found at the end of a garden hose on a flawless Saturday afternoon. The weather was absolutely perfect—clear blue skies, just enough breeze to offset the summer heat, and ideal conditions to knock out some overdue garage cleanup.
My primary mission for the day? Giving the Porsche Boxster the full detailing treatment it deserved.
The Arsenal and the Foam
Every good wash session requires the right lineup. I lined up the usual suspects on the concrete: a solid wash and wax soap, heavy-duty wheel cleaner, glass spray, and some tire shine to lock in that deep contrast against the silver paint.
There is something deeply satisfying about blanketing a sports car in thick soap suds. It’s that brief window where the grime of daily driving is completely hidden beneath a wall of white foam, lifting away the dust before the final rinse down. After a thorough scrub, two buckets, and a careful drying process, the lines of the Boxster were finally popping in the afternoon sun. The metallic silver paint cleared up beautifully, catching the reflection of the clear blue sky.
The Daily Driver Tax: The Battle Against the Caked-On Dust
With the Boxster shining like a mirror, it was time to turn my attention to a much grimmer task: washing down the daily driver Acura MDX.
I installed standard replacement brake pads on the MDX several weeks ago. While their stopping power and pedal bite are incredibly sharp, they carry a heavy visual tax. Weeks of daily commuting without a wash had allowed an absolute mountain of dark gray brake dust to accumulate over the front wheels.
The Acura alloy wheels had completely lost its luster, caked in a thick, matte-layer of metallic grime.
Note to self: Next time, do not skip the premium ceramic low-dust pads.
Standard compound pads might give you fantastic stopping confidence, but they certainly make you earn the clean look on wash day. Blasting that heavy, weeks-old layer of dust out of the inner barrels and scrubbing down the face of the spokes became a genuine driveway battle.
Time to drop the top on the Boxster and catch the sunset before the weekend slips away!
